Born Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1897. A.B. Smith College, 1919; M.A. Mt. Holyoke College, 1925; Ph.D. Yale, 1937. Married Donald Ross Green. Taught history at the University of Chicago, and Mt. Holyoke and Smith Colleges. Authored the two-volume Washington: A History of the Capital, 1800-1950 (1962-63), for which she received the Pulitzer Prize for history.
